RICKY MARTIN



Ricky Martin was named Person of the Year 2006 by the Latin Recording Academy. According to the announcement quoted by the agency itself singer was chosen for being a dedicated artist, a passionate humanitarian and a major world of entertainment. The ceremony took place on November 1, at a dinner at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, New York. Ricky was honored where artists like Miguel Bose, and Sin Bandera Juanes, among others, sang Ricky issues. On delivery of the Latin Grammys, Ricky Martin was awarded "Man of the Year" by the hands of the Spanish singer Miguel Bosé. Apart from their awards as a musician is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, and has twice won the Grammy for the Ricky Martin Foundation in Puerto Rico, created to protect the rights of children. He received the Leadership In The Arts Award, Billboard's Spirit of Hope Award, the Alma Award, Vanguard Award, and the International Humanitarian Award by the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children. UNICEF Ambassador, Ricky Martin founded the Ricky Martin Foundation in 2002 and established the People for Children project to combat trafficking and sexual exploitation of children. Following this he participated in several benefit concerts, including the Pavarotti and Friends, in 1999. In September 2002 he received the Hispanic Heritage Award for his humanitarian work with Sabera Foundation to rescue three orphaned girls from the streets of Calcutta. Thus, also in 2002, he recorded for Sabera Foundation, and his album Voices Of Hope, the song Amarey A Mangalia. In February of 2004, Martin received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Premios Lo Nuestro in Miami. Martin has been named as one of the 25 most beautiful men in the world by People Magazine and People in Spanish, in 2000, 2006 and 2007
